5 TIPS How to prepare for Boudoir Session in Luminaire Studio Boudoir Photography, Winnipeg

1. DISCOVER YOU BOUDOIR STYLE

If this is your first Boudoir session, you might want to browse online for some photo examples of the styles that resonate with you.

HINT: Here is the fact: you took a badass step and booked this awesome experience with our studio out of all the other offers out there. This is the first clue that you have already connected with the artistic, moody Boudoir style that we specialize in, rather than a light and airy look. Follow this clue, use those keywords, and explore this specific genre.

TASK: Spend 15 minutes to research some of your favourite looks. Email us 10-20 photographs that you connect with. This will help us understand your taste and preferences and help us personalize your session.

Also just talk to us :) let us know what you are comfortable with and how exposed, or

unexposed, you want to be during your session. Everyone has a different comfort level, and we like to be aware and informed of your expectations prior to your session.

2. BOOK THE DATE AFTER YOUR MONTHLIES

Nobody wants to ruin a potentially empowering Boudoir session because they’re crabby, cramping, and bloated. Instead, book the week after your period when you’re feeling back to normal and energetic. Your boudoir photos will look better with no

strings attached, literally!

3. TOUCH UP THE BASICS

Mani/pedi a few days prior to your session.

If you wax, don’t forget to pencil that into your schedule.

If you want to have a base tan for your photos, we recommend tanning a few weeks prior to your session to avoid burning or looking like a pumpkin in your photos.

Wear loose fitting, comfortable clothes to Luminaire Studio. Skip the bra, skip the socks, skip the watch, and forget that belt, those tight jeans, and anything else which might leave an impression on your skin.

A Boudoir session might make your body feel like you just went to the gym, but better! I know that the way I explore the best camera angles makes my muscles remember the session for a while. Stretch your body a bit before the session; some poses might be a tad challenging. Bonus: endorphines! More and more LOVE!

Bring your music. We have our own power playlists but you are VERY WELCOME to bring whatever music makes you feel free, charged up, and sensual.

4. JUST RELAX

The most important thing you can do is simply relax and let yourself go. Luminaire Studio is a safe space. We will work hard to help you feel amazing, which always translates into a wondeful experience and spectacular photographs. If you find yourself feeling vulnerable, crying, laughing, or all at the same time it's OK! We can take breaks, have a sip of wine, and go at a pace that feels safe and comfortable for you.

Boudoir session requires a lot of trust and we don't want to just take it from you for granted, we want to earn it. While there is still some time left before your big day please don't hesitate to get to know us and our mission. Great news are that it's super simple to do since Luminaire Studio has created a private facebook group exclusively for women. The group is called "The Luminaires" and it's a wonderful source of body positive content and best tool to track our work and activities. We'd love to have you there. Join here

5. O U T F I T S

Spend time trying on and testing outfits. Your own closet should be your primary target, and your bedroom can be your own runway...

It’s no secret that our bodies change over time. we gain weight, we lose weight, we have children. Some things that used to look great on us just don’t anymore, and there are other things that we rock now that never would have worked before!

Make a day out of it. Play your favorite tunes, pour yourself a glass of wine and get the largest mirror you can find. You can turn this into an epic home fashion show and, as a bonus, you can boost your productivity by organizing your wardrobe!

WHAT IF..

You looked, had fun and all but sadly discovered that your closet ain't the gateway to Narnia?

Consider investing in one or two (or more!) statement pieces that fit like a glove and make you feel like a queen.

KEEP IN MIND that if you make your purchase online, do it way ahead of time to allow for returns or exchanges.

Be very specific with your size. Something too small or too big will make you feel uncomfortable and will not turn out well in photos.

Bring only the outfits that you love. Ditch the stuff that you feel like bringing just because you think your photographer might like you to wear it. It's all about you and what makes you feel great!.
